The lanyard can be clipped into your molle system – looping through, or using a separate T bar. Depending on your use case, it can looped onto your items and clipped onto your PLCS (Personal Load Carrying System) or clipped off your belt or holding your keys or ID card or ANYTHING you can think of in one place.
